Furniture Hacks
If you’re living in a tight space then you should know that furniture came sometimes take up more room than it’s worth. But how can you get around having that large recliner or the furniture that comes with the dorm room? After the jump, I’ll tell you about a few simple furniture hacks that can make life a lot easier. Some are common sense, but I hope that there are at least a few that you haven’t thought of before.
- Have multiple use furniture: There’s no reason to have a bed and a couch in the room if space is too tight. If you make up the bed then people can use it as a couch. Beds also make good tables. And while we’re on the subject of beds…
- Bunk the beds: Nothing clears space faster than not having a large item taking up room on the floor.
- Stools vs. Chairs: Somehow my dorm room is smaller than usual. So my roommate and I decided that stools would be better. They fit all the way under the desk and are more easily moved than chairs.
- Remove parts of the desk: Computer desks usually have a keyboard drawer with a front that will fold down. I don’t like having my keyboard in there, so I use it for books and things like that. I removed the front flap so that I never have to open the drawer anymore. Be careful with this tip however, because in some situations (like mine) you’ll need to be able to put that front flap back on.
- Use chairs as shelves. In addition to replacing all of our chairs with stools, we’ve placed one of the chairs on top of the TV. We know have an extra shelf that we use for plastic bags. I wouldn’t want to put anything too heavy up there, but for light things like that it works very well.
How else could you creatively use furniture? Can you see yourself using any of these ideas? Let us know in the comments below.
