6 Ways To Effectively Use Wall Space
There are countless articles and blogs that will tell you how to organize a room. And I’m not saying that they’re bad. Even I’ve done it, so it would be a bit fishy if I said it was a bad idea. But something that I see neglected a lot of the time in these articles is using wall space effectively. After the jump, check out 6 tips that you can use to get more use out of your walls.
- Velcro things to the wall. Some items like remote controls are prime candidates for being Velcro-ed to the wall. For anything that you need to be able to find quickly and is easily lost, velcro can be the solution. Award yourself some bonus points if you can Velcro the remote to the wall in a way that lets you use it without taking it off the wall. And as a bonus tip inside of this, felt sticks to Velcro. And felt is cheap (as in under $0.25 including tax at most places) so you can get double the use out of Command Hook Velcro packs.
- Hang crates from the wall. If what you want on the wall is a bit too large to slap a piece of Velcro on, then you could hang a crate on the wall. You should be careful and make sure that the hooks or whatever else you use to hang the crate is strong enough to hold up the crate and whatever else is inside. Lighter items such as sheets and towels would be great for this.
- Stack up versus spread out. This should be common sense, but I’m saying it anyway. If you spread out when putting things out in your room then you’re using more floor space. If you stack up, then you’re not taking away any more floor space but you’re using the same amount of wall space. It just makes sense.
- The closet walls exist. Don’t forget about the walls inside your closet. For anything that you won’t need too often or don’t want to be out in the open, hanging them on the wall in a closet can be a great place.
- Hang your laundry bag so it stays open. If you have an otherwise unused corner, turn it into a home for your laundry bag. With a few hooks you can hang the bag from the wall so that it always stays open.
- Hooks and binder clips are your friends. There are countless items that could use a temporary home on the wall. I have 3 hooks on the wall above my desk. One is home to my keys, one to a binder clip to hold papers, and one does whatever job is necessary at the moment. They have kept me from being locked out of my room or using up precious desk space a lot over the past few weeks alone.

Got something to say?
If you hang a crate up so that the hole is facing out from the wall, you can use it as shelves since you’d have the inside of the crate and the top of the crate.
